From 1982-1991, Mary Breuer headed a small consulting firm, Breuer Consulting Group, which started life as a strategic marketing consulting organization focusing primarily on architectural firms. Executive search was added to the firm’s service offerings and by 1989, search constituted half the firm’s work. By 1992, Breuer Consulting Group had provided either executive search or marketing consulting services to over 70 firms throughout the U.S. Marketing principles guide Breuer Consulting Group’s efforts in an environment of scarcity…regardless of general economic conditions. Effective leaders are always scarce. In that year, one of the firm’s largest clients, HOK, recruited Mary to start and grow HOK Consulting, now called Advanced Strategies. To take advantage of this entrepreneurial challenge with HOK, Mary sold her firm to Boston-based Zweig White and Associates, today the largest consultant to the Architectural, Engineering and Environmental industry. At HOK, Mary and her team built HOK Consulting to about $8 million in annual revenues over six years. Mary re-established her firm (Breuer Consulting Group, version 2.0) to provide assistance in addressing the increasingly critical issue of attracting talent to organizations involved in the built environment. |
