Regional Business Unit Leader, MEP Engineering

San Francisco

Recognized as one of the largest and most diverse A/E firms in the US, this firm is widely regarded as a leader in a highly, competitive design industry. A diverse practice with offices throughout the world, our client has provided architecture, interiors, planning, engineering and consulting services on virtually every project type. The firm distinguishes itself by providing market-focused services led by individuals around the world who are leaders in their fields of specialty and who are continually innovating by providing new services to anticipate clients’ needs.

The San Francisco office seeks a MEP Engineering Practice Leader who will be responsible for leading all mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering services within the region with a strong focus on sustainable and high-performance engineering. This firm operates as an integrated design practice, not as a “big A, little e” firm. This is an opportunity to be an office leader and to play a role in defining and communicating the San Francisco office’s brand. In part, this means collaborating with engineering leaders in the firm’s other business units on project delivery and resource sharing. It also means providing enthusiasm and a sense of purpose for the Engineering group in the San Francisco office.

The MEP Engineering Practice Leader will lead project execution and review; team management and technical improvement; and staffing management. In addition to consolidating and building the practice — helping to sell services internally and externally — the MEP Engineering Practice Leader will attract, recruit and retain talent.  Developing the MEP annual business plan and providing operational oversight of its implementation will be integral to this role. The successful candidate will be able to manage resources and assignments for the MEP practices and drive results in terms of design, quality performance and financial outcomes.

Candidates should be licensed in Mechanical Engineering and have at least 15 years of project engineering experience, 5+ of which should be in a leadership position. Experience with substantial institutional projects is highly desirable, though an ability to develop discipline fees for a wide range of project types is also a plus. Outstanding candidates will have the necessary project management skills and experience managing multi-disciplinary project teams to inspire both owners and designers alike.
